Meqeiro (Turning Point)
Meqeiro (Turning Point) by Solomon Berhe, Ephrem Habtetsion, Akedr Ahmedin, Henok Tesfabruk
This book, written in Tgrnya, is a compilation of short stories around the significant event in the Eritreans’ armed struggle for independence under EPLF. The event has been deemed as the Turning Point, or Meqiro in Tgrnya, in the course of the struggle.
It focuses on the annihilation of the Ethiopian army’s Wuqaw Ez or Command in February 1984. This command had controlled the northern coastal areas of Eritrea cornering the EPLF to the mountains of Sahel to the northwest. This campaign broke the encirclement and gave EPLF much better freedom to move and significantly, access to the Red Sea expanding its supply route options. It also showed that EPLF is still a viable movement and a military force to reckon with.
