Against All Odds
ERITREA - Revolution At Dusk by Dan Connell
Against All Odds is a firsthand account of Eritrea’s 30-year struggle for independence and social justice from Ethiopia. With little outside support, Eritrean nationalists brought successive Ethiopian governments backed by the US and Soviet Union to their knees. At the same time, they worked to liberate women, workers and peasants from poverty, hunger and oppression. The book argues that blending social revolution with political goals enabled the liberation front to unite Eritrea’s diverse society into a remarkable fighting force. In a new Afterword, the author describes Eritrean efforts to translate wartime values into sustainable development strategies.
